The Paint Store

Alexa works in a hardware store. The store sells paint in 1 gallon cans and 1 quart cans. The 1 gallon can has a diameter of 6 1/2 inches while the 1 quart can has a diameter of 3 1/2 inches.

1. Alexa is placing cans of paint on the shelf pictured above, which measures 50 inches by 18 inches, in rows and columns. How many 1 gallon cans will she be able to fit on the shelf? Explain how you got your answer.
   
   
2. How many 1 quart cans would she be able to fit on the shelf? Explain how you got your answer.
   
   
3. Alexa put as many gallon cans as she could on the shelf. She then decided to fill the remaining space with 1 quart cans. How many 1 quart cans was she able to fit? Use pictures to help explain your answer.
